In recent years we have witnessed fashionable freedom in festivals. The dress code is now whatever a man or a woman wants. Some follow a hint of the current trends, others not so much.
The important thing is to express yourself and feel like part of something bigger by showing your vision of the world in what you dress. Music festivals have come a long way from being only about music. It's about art, about fashion, about freedom.
There are always those who follow the trends or the conventional, but there are also those who challenge the rules of popularity by getting the craziest outfits in the festival fashion.
Let's have a look at those!!
Coachella - USA
Started in 99, Coachella is today one of the most anticipated music festivals. But like it's own name says ( "Coachella Valley Music and Art Festival"), it's about much more than music.
Besides the art, Coachella has become one of the most recognizable events in the fashion industry calendar. It's the ultimate escape; composed of colourful styles, powerful music, and big smiles. It is a scene of utter happiness.

Burning Man - Black Rock City, USA
If you've been to Burning Man, you already know that this is not a music festival. It's much more: it's a community!
Every year, for 9-days, tens of thousands of people create their own city in the Nevada desert.
By looking at the 10 principles of the Burning Man we can easily see how crazy the festival is: radical inclusion, radical self-reliance, radical self-expression are 3 of the core principles!
Everything you need to create something special right?
Like in many other festivals, fashion is an integral part of the event but with a twist: the wilder the outfit, the better.
The festival changed a lot since 35 people attended in 1986 with casual jeans, overalls, and t-shirts. Today, burners go all-out expressing their creative spirits with their costumes.
With temperatures that go up to 40ºC, the outfit can be minimum or nonexistent - yet the real burners will express themselves in the most uncommon ways.

Rainbow Serpent - Victoria, Australia
We couldn't leave Rainbow Serpent out of our crazy festival outfit list.
This festival started as a small gathering more than 20-years ago, but Rainbow Serpent has come a long way from small!
Every year thousands of us travel from all over the world for 4 days of boundless hedonism, wild costumes, art, and heavy-hitting bass in Lexton, Australia.
A combination of music, art, performance, spiritual education, relaxation, and healing invites over 10,000 people there every year. And while the attendance numbers aren't quite the same as Coachella or Burning Man, the community spirit is well and truly there.
Think of the most outrageous, outlandish outfit possible and someone at the Rainbow Serpent will have exceeded your expectations: fairies, space suits, unicorns, flamingos, even people dressed up as an egg or bacon. You can wear whatever you want or don't dress at all.
A place to freely express yourself without risk of judgment.

Lightning in a Bottle
Like the festivals referenced before, the Lightning in a Bottle festival is all about the experience and not just the music, it’s a mix of music, art, and culture.
The Lightning in a Bottle festival started as a birthday party (someone knows how to throw a party!!), and in 2004 a festival was born. Many people call it the baby Burning Man, and it's easy to understand why.
The Lightning in a Bottle gathers thousands of people in California every year who care about art, the earth, connecting with the others and making the world a better place bringing some beauty into it. And, of course, that gorgeously translates into what they wear. Festival fashion in Lightning in a Bottle is all about creativity and originality. People dress to express, not to impress. Which doesn't mean you’re not impressed. :)
Handmade crowns, painted jackets, fuzzy coats...it's like watching a Tim Burton movie in real life!

This is just a sample of the magical festival world that has been growing every year. Every year new festivals come upbringing people from all over the world. Most of them without a great music line up! So what's going on here!?
It's all about the experience!
The music is still important but it’s not the main focus anymore. These events bring together open-minded people, a like-minded mix of people from all walks of life, who attend these events for the same reason.
The freedom to express themselves and create a real feeling of connection with each other. Without judgment or prejudice. And, of course, what you dress is a big part of it. Fashion helps you share your message. Express yourself!
So no matter which festival you're going to, whatever vision of the world you have: share it with us, we'd love to get to know more about your vision. ;)
